![]() ![]() The downsides are generally fiddly and minor. ![]() You can connect one via the standard 3.5-millimeter audio port, or, if you’re watching from one of the projector’s streaming services (as opposed to over HDMI), stream wirelessly to a Bluetooth speaker. We found that the top volume was pretty high, loud enough for a small gathering of maybe a half-dozen people, but if you had many more than that or a lot of background noise (like you’re in a noisy neighborhood), then having some extra oomph from an external speaker is a good idea. Like most of the projectors we tried, the GS50 can also work as a Bluetooth speaker. It’s one of the few projectors we tested that can display video through USB-C, something that’s rare even on ones that cost twice as much. It also can connect to devices via HDMI, USB-A or USB-C-the last of which can either be for input from a laptop or similar, or for power delivery from a power bank or wall charger. Like most modern projectors, the GS50 runs Android TV, which gives it access to most streaming platforms (except Netflix, so we had to use a bizarre workaround ), allowing you to stream video easily once connected to your home Wi-Fi network. It has automatic vertical keystoning (that’s adjusting for the low angle you’re projecting it up at, transforming a trapezoid into the proper rectangular shape) and eye-protection mode that will interrupt the projection if it detects you walking in front of it. The GS50 isn’t the brightest or sharpest projector we tried, nor does it have the deepest, darkest blacks-but it’s still plenty good enough, projecting a pleasing video for the hypersaturated colors and fast motion of “Thor: Love and Thunder.” It also had one of the better battery life results in our testing, going for a full three hours and 45 minutes while in eco mode. And the retro design is fun, especially in a category that can skew rather boring. The GS50 also comes with an adjustable built-in stand and a faux-leather carrying handle as well as a handy carrying case for schlepping around that will also keep the projector from getting dusty in winter storage. That’s not enough to survive a rainstorm or a tumble out of a moving car, but if a marauding child splashes it with soda or a tipsy guest knocks it off a low table, it’s not an instant write-off. It’s splashproof, and drop proof to 70 centimeters (a little over 2 feet). While it’s a bit heavier and bigger than other, similarly priced devices including the XGimi Halo+ and the Anker Capsule 3, both of which we address below, the advantage is the GS50 has a layer of protection that no other devices bothers with. With the GS50, BenQ has established what most other outdoor projector brands seem to have missed: This thing is designed to go outdoors. Input options: Wi-Fi, USB-C, USB-A, HDMI, Bluetooth. No battery indicator in the user interface. Not the brightest, sharpest or best video quality overall.Smart design features like an adjustable built-in stand and water and drop resistance. This is a good projector made great thanks to water resistance and impact protection. How to set up a good outdoor home theater.Runner-up outdoor projector with better video quality. And Anker’s Nebula Solar Portable is our lower-price pick. (Both models earned top spots in our colleague Nicole Nguyen’s evaluation as well.) For stunning 4K video at a higher price, you should choose Epson’s Home Cinema 2350. If you value a brighter, sharper image over that outdoor-proofing, we recommend XGimi’s Halo+. While there is a legion of projectors that are good at putting up a video, one stands out from the rest in being better at the “outdoor” part of “outdoor projectors.” The BenQ GS50 doesn’t just show movies and TV well it also has a useful stand to adjust its angle and comes with drop and splash protection to guard it against the vagaries of outdoor entertaining. A good portable projector can be used indoors and out, with enough battery to last an entire Marvel movie, a bright enough image that you can see it before the sun has totally set and enough built-in streaming and mirroring tools that you can watch just about anything without needing to juggle extra cords and cables. But a projector isn’t limited in use to just a few warm months of the year-you can pull it out during sleepovers for a four-player round of Mario Kart at family movie night or when car camping in the spring. On a long summer evening, few things are more appealing than sitting outside with friends and family, watching a movie projected on the side of the house as the ice in your glass starts to melt.

Now Israel says the UN "must do better" on delivering aid to civilians in Gaza. In comments that didn't go down well in Tel Aviv, the UN's human rights chief has said war crimes have been committed by both sides. Relations between Israel and the UN are strained, with Israel revoking access to some officials and hitting out at the UN secretary-general's calls for a ceasefire. Its entire border with Gaza - which was breached to devastating effect by Hamas during its 7 October terror attacks - is closed. Israel has been criticised during the conflict for not allowing aid in. In a post on X, COGAT, part of the Israeli defence ministry, said the "aid is there". Israel appears to have blamed the United Nations for the lack of aid reaching Gaza. In 1959, procedure was changed to keep both dog tags with the service member if they died. Regulations have gone back and forth regarding whether the two tags should stay together or be separated. By the 1970s, those machines were replaced, so the tags issued today are now smooth on both sides. Historians say the notch was there due to the type of machine used to stamp the tags. By the war's end, they also included the second chain that the Army had implemented decades before.Īt this time, all military tags included a notch in one end. They also included a "T" for those who had a tetanus vaccination, but by the 1950s that, too, was eliminated.ĭuring World War II, Navy tags no longer included the fingerprint. ![]() An emergency notification name and address were initially included on these, but they were removed by the end of the war. The biggest difference was the etched print of each sailor's right index finger on the back, which was meant to safeguard against fraud, an accident or misuse.Įach was mechanically stamped with your name, rank, service number, blood type and religion, if desired. If you were enlisted, the etching included your date of birth and enlistment, while officers' included their date of appointment. Made of monel - a group of nickel alloys - they had the letters "U.S.N." etched on them using a specific process involving printer's ink, heat and nitric acid. Slight Differencesĭuring World War I, Navy tags were a bit different than Army's. Toward the end of World War I, American Expeditionary Forces in Europe added religious symbols to the tags - C for Catholic, H for Hebrew and P for Protestant - but those markings didn't remain after the war. Exact size specifications were put in place, and the tags also included each man's Army-issued serial number. combat troops were required to wear them. The Navy didn't require ID tags until May 1917. The tags were given to enlisted men, but officers had to buy them. The first tag was to remain with the body, while the second was for burial service record keeping. The order was modified in July 1916, when a second disc was required to be suspended from the first by a short string or chain. The tags were worn under the field uniform. The half-dollar size tags were stamped with a soldier's name, rank, company and regiment or corps, and they were attached to a cord or chain that went around the neck. It took a few years, but in December 1906, the Army put out a general order requiring aluminum disc-shaped ID tags be worn by soldiers. Pierce - who was in charge of the Army Morgue and Office of Identification in the Philippines - recommended the Army outfit all soldiers with the circular disks to identify those who were severely injured or killed in action. ![]() The first official request to outfit service members with ID tags came in 1899 at the end of the Spanish-American war. The outcome of the war showed that concerns about identification were valid, and the practice of making identification disks caught on. To bring that into perspective, consider this: Of the more than 17,000 troops buried in Vicksburg National Cemetery, the largest Union cemetery in the U.S., nearly 13,000 of those graves are marked as unknown. Historical resources show that in 1862, a New Yorker named John Kennedy offered to make thousands of engraved disks for soldiers, but the War Department declined.īy the end of the Civil War, more than 40% of the Union Army’s dead were unidentified. Those who could afford it bought engraved metal tags from nongovernment sellers and sutlers - vendors who followed the armies during the war. ![]() According to the Marine Corps, some men carved their names into chunks of wood strung around their necks. Others used old coins or bits of round lead or copper. Some marked their clothing with stencils or pinned-on paper tags. They were terrified of being buried in unmarked graves, so they found various ways to prevent that. Unofficially, identification tags came about during the Civil War because soldiers were afraid no one would be able to identify them if they died. Regardless of where the nickname started, the concept of an identification tag originated long before that. Another rumor said it was because the tags looked similar to the metal tag on a dog's collar. Other rumored origins of the nickname include World War II draftees calling them dog tags because they claimed they were treated like dogs. According to the SSA, Hearst referred to them as "dog tags" similar to those used in the military. He had heard the newly formed Social Security Administration was considering giving out nameplates for personal identification. In 1936, Hearst wanted to undermine support for President Franklin D. The game was released by the publisher's surviving German branch in 1996 before that branch shut down as well. ![]() It was due to be published by Black Legend as Football Glory Indoors but the company was shut down in 1996 due to a declining Amiga games market. An indoor soccer version of Football Glory, titled Five-A-Side Soccer, was completed in 1995 and designed for the Amiga 500, 1200, and 4000 systems. Sensible Software, the developer of Sensible Soccer, soon threatened with legal action, wherefore Croteam ceased all development on Football Glory. The company subsequently created an MS-DOS version of the game, which was released in May 1995. The game was released on 6 November 1994 for the 500, 12 models of the Amiga. During this time, the Croteam staff was expanded with Admir Elezović, Alen Ladavac, Tomislav Pongrac, and Marko Sekulić. The game, Football Glory, entered production in late 1993 and was completed in October 1994. Having finished that project, the team decided to create a association football game, which later became a clone of Sensible Soccer. Ĭroteam's first game was a clone of Sokoban, created to demonstrate that the team could successfully complete a game. Croteam later rented office space from the Brodarski institut. Several Croteam employees, including Hunski, were drafted for one-year military conscriptions. Other team members, such as Sekulić, worked from home and shared source code with the others by exchanging floppy disks. Both rent and hardware were financed by the parents of various employees. The company initially operated out of Ribarić's apartment in Utrina and later rented an office in the building where Hunski resided with his mother. Personal computers, such as the Amiga, were expensive at the time, wherefore the team acquired hardware from grey market, duty-free shops. In late August 1992, while studying at separate universities, Hunski and Ribarić teamed up with Perović and Sekulić to found Croteam. After Hunski and Ribarić learned that the developer made a profit with his endeavour, they decided to develop games for a living. The brother of another classmate was the first Croat to release a commercial video game. All four were in Neli Mindoljević's class during their four-year tenure at the "Nikola Tesla" high school in Zagreb, graduating as part of the school's last generation in 1991. Perović and Sekulić came from the neighbouring Sloboština and Sopot, respectively. Hunski and Ribarić were born and raised in the Utrina neighbourhood of Zagreb and initially met around age 6 at the "Mladost" primary school, which they attended for eight years.
